Treaties on Asherian Cities

Keiru Silver

In the fantastic spirit of Volsung Vesper, I'm expanding the city info page. It's no use leaving it to sit on my computer until the graphics and html are ready, so I'll post in here as I finish.

For now, all I have completed is Fayre. I'll add more as they're completed.

Lunis

Capital City, Fayre

Current State:
In days gone by, the entire continent of Asheri was ruled from the Council Building in Fayre. When Aramus VanVehementi's imperialistic spirit divided the council, the union ceased, leaving the city of Fayre in chaos. Unofficially, the old borders of the continent were put up, and old grudges unearthed. Nylinus was divided again and Fayre, as usual, was at the center of it all. After a brief occupation by VanVehementi's troops, General Victor Dominic of Lunis bravely retook the capital, and ousted the remaining forces back to New Dargent. Much of the city wall is damaged, and repairs have only recently begun.

Population Info:
Boasting a population of over 70,000, the city of Fayre has always been a haven for those seeking to learn magic. Fayre was built at it's location for the strong concentration of mana in the surrounding area, making it a prime place to learn to channel power without inflicting too much damage on the environment. However, due to political unrest, most people seeking magic are already in the employ of the Lunis or Imperial Army, so self training is now the norm, and people who once would have flocked to Lunis to learn magic now do so to aid the country's greater cause.

Important Places:

The Chora Tree-
In the center of the city, beyond the Museum of Magical Artifacts, is the giant Chora Tree. During the Great War, the tree was sown to combat a vengeful dragon spirit and grew to enormous size. Entending almost to the clouds, its massive roots destroyed stone and wood alike, tearing up the very foundations of Lunis. When the city was being rebuilt, the tree became a part of lush green parks that replaced the damaged streets.

Fayre Museum of Terra Magic and Artifacts-
In the days before the Great War, the Lunis Academy of Magic was the central draw of the city. However, the building was destroyed partially by the Chora Tree's rapid growth and expansion. Adding to this, Terra magic following the war was found to be unpopular, and eventually banned. When the Academy building was rebuilt, it was converted to a museum to display relics of the power they once relied on. Most of the artifacts were acquired through force, when Nylinus sought to collect all remaining artifacts to end the use of Terra magic completely. Unfortunately, the museum was raided during the attack on Fayre, and there are few artifacts left in the care of the curators. As General Dominic has relieved the ban, there is little demand to seek out artifacts anymore, save for personal or military use.

Home Guard Barracks-
The barracks for Fayre's home guard are the largest in Asheri, save for Nyliam Proper. Since many battles are staged in or around Fayre, the city is a fortress. A large part of the barracks is actually the same structure as the main wall surrounding the city. Its armory, the largest in Lunis, is also housed here.

Storehouses-
Most of the grain and livestock in Lunis is tended in the fields northeast of Fayre. For this reason, Fayre was chosen to act as the national storehouse as well as capital city. The storehouses where grain is kept are in the southwest of the city, set within their own walls.

Nyliam
Capital City, Nyliam Proper

Current State:
Nyliam has always been a powerful military force. Not once in history has the fortress city been taken, or even attacked. The city is a natural fortress, protected by the Spine of Nyliam mountains and the Nyliam Shield lakes. The city within the walls is home to the largest standing army in Aeterna, and also the largest armory. It is perhaps for this reason that Nyliam is so prone to imperialistic rulers. Currently, self appointed Emperor Aramus VanVehementi is overseeing the expansion of his empire.

Population Info:
Nyliam Proper is home to more than 150,000 people. A sizeable amount of these inhabitants are soldiers and military personnel. The city itself sits about a half mile inside the walls of Nyliam Proper, the space between is filled with barracks, seige machines, and defensive forces, even in times of peace. Nyliam is an architect's dream, with many of the large buildings built in a Gothic Roman style.

Important Places:

Nyliam Empire-
The seat of power may change, but the leaders of Nyliam, under whatever name, have always lived in the Proper. The capital building seems to be whichever mansion the current emperor lives in, so there is no official capital. Nonetheless, Nyliam is the most potent military force in the world, and seems to have developed a rivalry with Lunis. The twin cities of New Dargent and Farlarn are constantly fighting back and forth, however, currently the Nyliam Empire has captured New Dargent and is holding strong.

Quarries-
The Spine of Nyliam mountains are rich in ores and minerals. For this reason, two of Nyliam's chief exports are steel and stone. During wartime, Nyliam maintains an advantage by not exporting to its enemies the steel that is so precious in making weapons. Although not as strong as Dralar, Nyliam steel and steelworkers are known for their high quality weapons.

Home Guard Barracks-
The first half mile inside the city is all military buildings. Nyliam empire's standing army is the largest in the world, so it is no surprise that it's barracks and armory are, as well. In addition to these, part of the city is dedicated to a large forge from which weapons are made in times of high demand.

Storehouses-
Since Nyliam is surrounded by mountains and lakes, most of its food is imported from the fields surrounding Miltus. This would likely be a large disadvantage for Nyliam, had it ever been attacked. However, to date, no hostile army has made it past Karakai and Hillslay.
