Swordly Semantics (warning: In-Joke approaching)

Keiru Silver

Okay, anyone posting the Swordly Semantics here will be ritualistically beaten with sharpened reeds, you all got that?

Come on!! They ruled, especially the Blade of Kalimdor!! We had so many people using them! Now, though, it seems outdated because you can created a sub-subject (weird) for what you are writing.

What the hell are sword semantics? I missed something.

Also keep in mind that I don't like being beaten, even for ritual sake.

Nothing to worry about Palin. Swordly Semantics were something from the old site. I never understood it myself.

Although this is no Bhulenpazzen's blade, I contest that this is an outrage!!!!

The Swordly Semantics were never meant to be serious!!! My goodness, after almost a year and a half, people still think that they were ACTUALLY supposed to follow those rules. In the words of Mr. T, "I pity all the foos who thought that the Swordly Semantics was something serious!"

Well, that's all I have to say about that, except for the fact that I think there should still be more swords avaliable. They're much better then that ever crappy green arrow of stupidity.

I still want to know what the swordly semantics are! It might end up being something funny later on. (heh heh heh) No, just kidding.

You ask, and I deliver... The original Swordly Semantics post...

Originally posted by MightyMac, (Keiru Cobalt) on the original Asheri Boards, 11/30/00

Old post begins here:

What of these quaint and curious decorations? Why must we choose a sword each time we post? How useless these icons seem to be...

Ah yes...useless. Seems to me that we ought assign meaning to such fearsome blades. So, by the power invested in me, I shall do so, and all shall adopt such convention.

-----------Swordly Semantics-----------

Swords will be assigned numbers as follows:

First sword to left, first row = #1
Last sword to right, second row = #14
The others follow par.

1.) Because of convenience, the first sword shall be called the "Story Sword" and shall used for all story threads. Presumably, you will not see this icon used elsewhere.

2.) This sword has been bequeathed the name "The Choppa." It shall be used exclusively within the story thread, and it shall only be used in battle.

3.) This sword shall be called the "Moderator's Edge." It shall be used for whatever reason such individuals deem necessary. Unlawful use of such a weapon is dangerous and such an individual risks the
wrath of modification and moderation!

4.) This weapon, dirtiest of them all, shall be known as "Bhulenpazzen's Blade." This fine cutlass shall be used to "kick ass and take names." Woe to he who attempts to wield this weapon without reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.) This weapon shall be called the "Flame Blade" and shall be used to ridicule, make fun of, and torment newbies and other deserving individuals. Use with discretion or you may find such a weapon transform into the "Spam Knife" (see #11).

6.) This sword shall be called the "Golden Sword of Et Cetera." It shall be the default weapon of choice whenever one finds all other weapons unfit. It shall also be the only sword used on the third of each month.

7.) This sword (although appearing to be more of a club than an edged weapon) shall be suitably named the "Sword of Ignorance." Use this sword whenever you have a question that you would like answered. Every individual's first post should proudly display this magnificant weapon.

8.) This sword shall be called the "Posting Blade." It is a noble and honorable weapon and shall be used by all when posting to one another.

9.) This sword shall be called the "Sword of Mystery" Using such a weapon will draw attention because everyone will desire to know the mystery at hand. He he...

10.) This sword shall be called the "Angry Sword" and shall be used whenever you find yourself angry, annoyed, pissed, etc...

11.) This sword shall be called the "Spam Knife." Useless messages may suddenly don such a blade if scrutinizing moderators deem the post "Nuthin but Spam, Sukka!" Unless you are an idiot (or unless you are crazy...like Gaxx), you will not willingly use this weapon.

12.) This sword shall be called the "Eureka Blade" and shall be used whenever you find youself with a good idea, answer, or comment. This sword shall also be used whenever a new thread is created.

13.) Because he helped to create this post, this sword shall be called "Kalimdor's Cutlass." This lofty weapon will be used by Kalimdor (though it need not be feared, unlike Bhulenpazzen's Blade).

14.) This blade shall be called the "Sword of Honor." It shall be used whenever an individual wishes to compliment another. I expect that the Avatars will see this blade, and I anticipate seeing this sword frequently within this thread. Ha ha!

Warning: failure to abide by such conventions will be grounds for eternal and everlasting restriction to use of Sword #7.

All of the post icons used to be swords.

Go here. http://cgi-bin.spaceports.com/~asheri/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000007.html

And, Cobalt, I believe that at one point you took this ver seriously. We were sitting upstairs at the pizza place having a meeting about the site. You said that if newbies didn't feel like taking the time to adopt the convention, then that spoke ill of their feeling of responsibility to the boards. So HA! You were serious about this once! I remember it well!

Truth be told, we joked about this more than in this thread. It infected our daily lives like a fungus. The sword of ignorance would have been often used, had any of us figured out which one it was.

But hey, guys, we have the... uhh... Arrow of Ignorance! And the... hmm... Stop Sign of Anger! And the Evil Grinning Horned Head of Honor! And... the Anger face of Posting!

Wow, I actually do miss the sword of ignorance. I seem to remember it being wielded within the old forums with extreme prejudice. Wherever there was a foolhardy thought posted, that mighty blade was sure to abound. In all retrospective reality, however, those of you who have not been formally introduced to swordly semantics may count yourselves among the blessed spared, for those of us who do know about that ancient plight have found it to be our bane.... with the exception of Emerald. Alas, the warped gods of semantics have enthralled his brain like that of golem's. SAURON COMMANDS YOU EMERALD!!! *see Keiru Silver's post*

Alas, my good comrads! The link finds no file! Woe unto we who have not been blessed to look upon the vissage of the Mighty Swords.

*laughing*

One thing... what about the sword of Elven Cuteness? Surly, in your infinate wisdom, you have not overlooked so powerful an artifact?

*grinning*

Cheers!
